I’m Charlot van Gisbergen, and I’m thrilled to represent the Netherlands at Miss Europe Continental 2023. I see myself as a genuine connector, fueled by a creative mind, and I’m excited to share my story with you.
A Bit About Me
My background is in media, where I work as a freelance TV editor and producer. Currently, I’m deeply immersed in my first documentary project, which took me all the way to the jungle of Chiapas to interview the Lacandon Mayas.
While I’m proudly Dutch, I’ve always felt a deep connection to Latin-America. I find immense joy in inspiring, enthusing, motivating, and connecting with people, both in my professional work and personal life.
The Strengths and Imperfections
I’d like to think that my key strengths are my enthusiasm and unwavering positivity. They’re the driving forces that keep me going, pushing my boundaries in new situations and constantly seeking to acquire new knowledge. In my free time, I’m all about learning, reading books, singing, visiting friends, attending retreats, or exploring different parts of the world. However, sometimes I can be a bit impatient.
What Inspires Me
My biggest inspirations come from my own family. My parents have always worked hard on their farm in the South of the Netherlands. I’ve been inspired by my father’s unwavering determination and his strong work ethic, while my mother’s kindness and forward-thinking nature have left a deep mark on me.
In my career, I draw inspiration from notable figures like Jimmy Nelson, Stef Biemans, Lauren Verster, and Floortje Dessing, all of whom have made significant contributions to the world of media and storytelling.
A Turning Point in Amsterdam
A pivotal moment in my life occurred when I embarked on an internship at EndemolShine Netherlands. I was only 22 at the time, fresh from my exchange program in Santiago de Chile. It had always been my dream to work in media and move to Amsterdam. Before starting that internship, I had the realisation: “Nothing is impossible. Let’s go and build your network!”
Defining Happiness
To me, happiness is a state of mind, something that goes beyond fleeting emotions. It’s about finding inner peace, enjoying the company of loved ones, and the pure joy of pursuing my passions. True happiness, for me, lies in striking a harmonious balance between personal fulfilment and making a positive impact on the lives of others.
A Quote That ResonatesOne quote that truly resonates with me is, “Let your smile change the world, but don’t let the world change your smile.” This quote captures the idea of using one’s smile as a force for positive change in the world, while emphasising the importance of preserving one’s inner joy and authenticity despite external influences.
Miss Europe Continental 2023
Participating in Miss Europe Continental 2023 is a remarkable opportunity. It’s my debut on the international pageant stage, and I couldn’t be more excited. This experience allows me to step out of my comfort zone, embrace my feminine energy, and connect with inspiring people. I hope it will leave a lifelong impact and I feel deeply honoured to stand among so many beautiful, remarkable women
Fashion as a Form of Expression
Fashion, for me, is a powerful tool of self-expression. It enables me to convey my personality, values, and creativity through clothing and style choices. It’s a means of making a statement and showing the world our unique identity.
My Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, I see myself creating impactful human interest TV programs and immersive anthropological documentaries that foster empathy and understanding in the world. I also dream of establishing a foundation to support indigenous communities and traveling the world with my future family, exploring diverse cultures and experiences.
A Heartfelt Wish
If I had the power to make one wish come true, it would be to eliminate hate and cruelty. My wish is for a world where empathy unites people, recognising our shared humanity and the beauty of our common bonds. We’re all one!
